2019 Invy Espy Super League Presentations

With the 2019 Invy Espy Super League event having been run and won, all that remained was to make presentations to the winners.

You will recall that in the final the POSSUMS team (comprising David Forbes, Wendy Parker, Trevor Steer, Anne Gibson, Bruce Cathie, Lianne Adamason, Neil Mackenzie and Trevor Seebeck) narrowly prevailed over the ROSELLAS team (comprising Brendan Simon, Liz Hodge, David Child, Karen Castledine-Briggs, Peter Waters, Nan Meagher, Geoff Maher, and Max Hyde), 145 points to 143. Each member of the winning team has had $40 credited to their Club Account, while each of the runners up was credited with $25. The Player of the Final was David Forbes, with 39 points, narrowly tipping out David Child on 38. David won an Inverloch Esplanade hotel gift voucher for his fine performance.

In addition to the team component of the event of Super League, like the AFL there were also awards for the best performing male and female players during the 7 regular season rounds. This year the Club lost a keen supporter of mixed events such as the Super League in the late Rod Brown. As a tribute to Rod, the club has decided to name the awards the “Brownie Awards”. The inaugural winners of the 2019 Brownie Awards were Wendy Parker and Ian Barlow. Wendy won with 18 votes from Marea Maher on 15, Liz Hodge on 14 and Dot Stubbs on 13. For the men, Ian posted 15 votes to narrowly beat Tony Roberts, Allan Kuhne and Frank Gill who each posted 14 votes.

Wendy Brown (left) was on hand to make the presentation of the women’s “Brownie Award” to Wendy Parker yesterday at the completion of the ladies after-Wendy B and Wendy P - July 2019golf presentations.

Finally, we thank our sponsor, Dylan Clark of the Inverloch Esplanade Hotel for his generous sponsorship of the event once again. In addition I would also like to thank George Misson for his enthusiasm in rounding up the troops and helping form the teams and keep scores. We has many more women enter this year and it was largely due to George’s drive. Incidentally, it was no coincidence that one of only 2 teams with 3 women in it ended up winning. The women performed admirably in each team.

Until next year,

Peter Waters

Thanks Guys for the Wonderful Condition of our Course

This past week has been THANK A SUPERINTENDENT WEEK, where we get to thank our course staff and volunteers for maintaining our course in such wonderful condition.  Unfortunately, due to the Clubhouse roof works entering their final stages and us just getting back inside the Clubhouse, it was not possible for us to thank our fabulous course staff of Dylan, Tom, Dennis and the team of volunteers as we would have wished. However, take it as read guys that we  very much appreciate your efforts in maintaining our course to such a consistently high standard.  I’m sure that I speak on behalf of all LGC golfers when I say that despite the many poor rounds we have played throughout the year, it has been an absolute joy to be out and about on such a great course maintained in such terrific condition.

Thank a Super Week

It is only when you go to other courses that you realise just how good we have got it here. I was lucky enough to recently play a round at Yarra Yarra, and while their clubhouse was pretty swish, their course was, in my unbiased opinion, no better than ours. Similarly, upon wandering around while attending the recent men’s pennant final at Phillip Island, again I was thankful I was a member here at LGC.

Peter Waters,

President

2019 Invy Espy Super League Final Results

In view of the fact that contestants in the 2019 Invy Espy Super League Final were unable to post a score that counted today due to the McCaughan 4BBB event, the Final has been run and won. The Possums have prevailed in a closely fought battle with the Rosellas, 145 to 143. For the Possums, best performers included Dave Forbes (39), Trevor Seebeck (36) and Wendy Parker and Trevor Steer with 35 each. For the unlucky Rosellas, David Child chimed in with 38, while Peter Waters (36), Max Hyde (35) and Geoff Maher (34) all posted useful contributions. Dave Forbes picked up the Espy voucher for being best performer of the Final, congratulations Dave. Presentations will be made to the winning team, the runners up and the male and female winners of the Rod Brown B&F awards at the club in a couple of weeks when George gets back on deck.

Once again, we would like to thank Dylan Clark from the Esplanade Hotel Inverloch for his generous sponsorship of this event. Our thanks also go to all who entered the competition this year, we had a great response with 8 teams of 8 players contesting the regular season rounds. Interestingly, the winning Possums team, and the 4th-placed Wombats both had 3 female players, while the remaining 6 teams only had 2. Well done girls, you carried your teams well all season and especially in the finals. Special thanks to George Misson who rallied the troops before the season kickoff.
