BJS Insurance Top Gun Update No.1

With a cold wet start to the BJS Insurance Top Gun Event this year, you may think that scores could be ordinary, but the opposite is the case for the leaders who have been handling the conditions well, and producing some amazing golf.

Still early days but I encourage you to jump on board now, register at the front desk and pay the $10.00 entrance fee and make sure that next extra ordinary round qualifies you for the final.

TopGun Update as of 13/8/2017.

Tuesday Stableford- 8 August 2017

On a very cool damp day when carts were not allowed on the Course,  Chris Leaver played a great game to come home with Best Score of the Day with 39 points.  That may very well cement Chris a place in the BJS Insurance Top Gun Final in November.

SuperLeague Semi Final Results.

What a thrilling end to the week of SuperLeague. Jim Arnott had anchored his Team, Pars, with a fine 35 points and solid rounds in the conditions by Neil (Macca) Mackenzie  &  Peter Hobson each with 31, looked to have the Pars set for a win, with 97 points.

Clearly however, the Player of the Week was Peter Walsh with a very good 37 points, and together with Brian Fennessy’s last gasp 29 points on Thursday helped their Team, Fairways to level with Pars, on 97 points.

The SuperLeaque rules call for countback of the best three cards in these semi final circumstances, and in this case, Fairways get the nod 49 to 46 on the total of the back nine count back scores.

In the other Semi Final, Bunkers (104) look to have a very solid team with Jon Smith (36), Hans Hoefler (34) and that deciduous Kev Castwood pruning back another 34, taking the win over OOB’s (102) led by Antony Roberts strong 36, supported by Doug Clemann (33) and Frank Gill’s last effort on Saturday with 33 (bad luck about the 7 on the 9th, partner).

Wormburner’s Medal -Round 1 -Tuesday 18th July 2017

The first round of the Wormburner’s Medal was well attended on a relatively fine day for golf albeit a very chilly Tuesday.  Ian Barlow was the king of the yellow tee’s with a great score of  43 points, which was Best Score of the Day. Jon Smith came in as runner up with 39 points to win A Grade on count back.  I look forward to the next week’s round to see who takes out the Medal.

Thursday 13th July 2017 -Stableford

Thursday 13th was a chilly day for golf but a good field turned up the heat with some spectacular golf, none better than Mitchell Elliot who returned with a gigantic 48 points off a handicap of 28 to take Best Score of the Day, and C Grade.  Life member Col Sperling was quick to claim credit for the performance being all down to breeding, as Mitchell is his grandson.

A grade was won by Geoff McDonald (38 points) who continued his recent good run of form and B Grade won by Frank Gill with a steady 36 points.

DTLB’s were won by Kris Mueck (37), Michael Thomas (36), Stuart Harry (36), Joe Lowell (35), Mark Warby (35), Andrew Smith (35), Adan Hewood (34), Ron Findlay (34), Michael Street (33), Greg Ellt (33), Alan Kuhne (33), Alan Sperling (33), John Dumont (33), Rebecca Thomas (33), Paul Luck (33), Peter Brownlie (32),  Ray Burton (32), Peter Hart (32) and Bruce Cathie (31).

Nearest the Pin winners, were Kris Mueck  (0.63M) on the 14th hole and John Simon (3.1M) on the 16th hole.

A Grade winner Geoff McDonald included in his round of 38 points a very good eagle from out of the scrub at the top of the hill, to hole out on the 2nd.

Just to go one better, not only did Kristopher Mueck (-5) score 37 points and take out the NTP on the 14th with (63cm), he scored two eagles, the first on the par 4-3rd hole and the second on the par 5- 18th hole, overall a great day out by both players.
