Thursday Mixed Stableford – Thursday 11th February 2016

Another great day for golf saw Jeff Brewer certainly enjoy himself. Playing his first competitive round since having a knee replacement, Jeff blitzed the course with a wide array of shots. Playing off a handicap of 19 (although not for much longer!) Jeff parred the front nine (27 stableford points including three 4 pointers!) on his way to a total of 45 points, easily the best score of the day. Jeff’s playing partner, Peter Horman, also had a good day shooting under 100 off the stick for 38 points to take out C Grade. Between them, they won 14 holes from two demoralised opponents (myself included) and convincingly won the “dollar”!

SGDGA Junior Pennant Rnd 2. Sunday 7/2/2016

Results of Junior Pennant.

Once again our Team of Jessica Harry, Ryan Thomas and Tim Boler teed off in the second round, this time at Lang Lang Golf Club.

Jeesica Harry got up to beat Taylor Robinson (Phillip Island) 2/1 in another nail biter. Jessica is contining her solid form.

Tim Boler lost a close match to Jacob Taberner (Lang Lang) 3/2 ; and

Ryan Thomas found Charlie May (Lang Lang) a little hot to handle, going down 5/4. Charlie is a very tough opponent and had been the SGDJ No. 1 player in a number of the Metro Pennant games recently.

This leaves us in 4th spot on 2 wins.  Due to other conflicting activities the team will not be hitting off in Round 3.

Time will tell if we have any further part in the finals.  Whilst not having the numbers of the other top three clubs, our players are experiencing some invaluable match pratice which will hold them in good stead in matches to come.

Men’s Tuesday Stableford – Tuesday 2nd February 2016

The return to a 9am shotgun start seemed to suit most players, many of whom spent  time catching up with fellow members before hitoff.

One of our country members, Patrick Mitchell was keen to impress some of his guests and fellow members from Eastern Golf  Club and did so by posting the best score of the day, an impressive 39 points. Well done Patrick! One of his guests, Mel Miles also had a good day by taking out a NTP and also a DLT ball.

Another great effort was posted by our regular visitor Kevin Harris who posted 37 points. As Kevin was playing off scratch it would probably equate to a sub-par round!

SGDGA Junior Pennant Rnd1. Sunday 31/1/2016

Results of SGDGA Junior Pennant Round 1.

Junior Pennant commenced on Sunday 31/1/2016 at Korumburra Golf Club. 23 Juniors from  Korumburra, Leongatha, Wonthaggi, Phillip Island and Lang Lang Golf Clubs played in the first round.

Pennant runs for three weeks before the finals.

January 31 – Korumburra GC
February 7 – Lang Lang GC
February 14 – Foster GC
February 21 – Finals need to be on a neutral venue.  Both Leongatha and Phillip Island have indicated they are available that day.

All juniors, available from all clubs will play each week. Clubs may enter as many players as they wish, but if they have more than 5 players, the 5 lowest handicap players results count toward the team result. Players must be U21. Team members from one club will not necessarily all play team members of the same another club.

In our case LGC are represented by three players being Jessica Harry, Ryan Thomas and Tim Boler.

Round One results were:

Jessica Harry def Bailey Wood (Lang Lang) 6/5
Ryan Thomas lost to Charlie McKenzie (Lang Lang) 6/5
Tim Boler lost to Isaac Batty (Phillip Island) 3/2
Jessica a nice effort to bring home the win.
Not a bad effort considering Korumburra doesn’t suit everyone and this week’s game is at Lang Lang so I think the boys may be more at home there.
Three of the other Clubs have teams of 6 players or more competing, highlighting the need for LGC to round up some more interested juniors.  Josh and John are working hard on this aim through their Kinder and School Programs and Junior Clinics but it would be nice if we could muster some junior players who come down this way on holidays or who have grandparents down here, to also take advantage of signing up and playing for this great Club.
Keep up the good work Team and we look forward to Round two at Lang Lang.  We are all barracking for you.
