Men’s Pennant – Round 1 – March 17

Round 1 kicked off today with a Division 3 recording a handy 4/3 victory over the strong Woorayl side. Grant McRitchie and Captain Chris Indian pulverised their opponents, Andrew Henley won in his first outing in the LGC shirt and ever reliable Bryan McCorkell outstayed his opponent for a 2up victory to see the team home.

Division 5 had a convincing 5/2 victory over the Welshpool team that were promoted from Division 6.   Captain John McLennan has the boys firing early.

Division 1 had a tough start to the year with a number of regulars out for the week, but stand in players Ryan Thomas, John Wheatley and Mark Lafferty recorded win at our top level of pennant golf in our 4/3 loss to Philip Island.

We are, nonetheless, well on track for another 3 finals appearances.

Final of the Gordon West 9 Hole Competition

Today was a very warm and blustery day at Leongatha Golf Club but it didn’t stop a large field playing in the final Round of the Gordon West 9 Hole Competition.  Jean Chaplin with a nett score of 34 points beat all the other women home, and this month’s Men’s Monthly Medal Winner, Chris Leaver, who continued his great form, finishing with a 34 of the stick.

Once again Pat West has been out early every round of the competition, checking players in and handing out the cards, and writing up the team lists for each day’s play, with many thanks going the Trevor Seebeck and Ian Danks for keeping the tallies, checking the cards and handicapping standout players each event.  Pat reminded us that the Gordon West continues to be a popular event, through the support of not only the players, but the long running association with sponsors Deborah & Kevin Scott from South Gippsland Kennels, who have already committed to sponsoring again in 2020.

The overall winning Team for 2019 was Divots with 54 points over Top Dogs (46) and & 7 Up (42).  Attached is a photo of the Winning Team, and sponsors from L-R Kevin Scott, Dot Stubbs, Trevor Moss,  Rita de Bondt, Ron Paice,  Chris Leaver, Anna de Bondt, Marianne Leaver, Pat West & Deborah Scott.
