Whisky Day Stableford – December 14

The midweek shotgun starts concluded for the year with the very popular Whisky Day event.

Some tricky pin placements meant scores weren’t as red hot as in past weeks but a few players still starred with some great scores.

Russell Williams won A grade with 39 points, then promptly won a nice little Christmas bonus in the Joker Poker draw.  Marilyn also won nearest the pin on the 16th so the whisky will be flowing over the festive season in the Williams household.

Peter Waters had a tremendous 40 points to win B grade on a countback from Trevor Steer.  Pete got the bigger bottle of whisky but Trevor left with a nice bottle of JW under his arm

Ian Watson finished the 2017 shotgun year in great style with 39 points to clean up in C grade.

Mulligan’s Day Stableford- Thursday 7/12/2017

Mulligan’s Day is a Thursday Stableford event sponsored and promoted as a seriously fun day by the three amigo’s, Dr Bill Howson, Vet Antony Gedye and Agent Ross McRobert.  By purchasing Mulligan’s before you commence the round, you then have a bag full of  opportunities (up to 5 anyway) to replay a bad shot without further penalty.  A perfect solution to that shank, hooked drive, sliced approach or missed putt that ordinarily costs you points in an otherwise good round. This was the second year of the event and it continues to evolve into a super day.  The sponsors are keen to see more fun, challenges and rewards included in future events.

I can tell you that it takes all the worry, stress and cursing out of a round of golf and that was evidenced by some great scores, none better than 47 points scored by Andy Bassett who was playing with the delightful company of three women golfers, Jocelyn Howson, Else Gedye and Glenyce McRobert.  Some members suggested Andy may have forgotten that he was supposed to have been playing off the Blue markers and not with the Women off the Red.

A Grade was won by Chris Leaver with 45 points, and C Grade won by Hans Hoefler, also with 45 points.

Just out of the major’s was Rob Martin with 44 points, Frank Smedley, Garry Friend  and Wayne Keen with 43, and the best Women’s score was a wonderful 41 points by Glenyce McRobert.

Unfortunately for Andy, you can’t carry over any unused Mulligan’s to use on the next Monthly Medal.

This was a day too good to miss out on, and hopefully we can encourage a lot more of our Women, and visitors, to join in on the Christmas festivities next year.

Monday night 5 hole event

Another perfect evening for golf.  Monday golf wins again.

Dan Monaghan had the best score of the night (nett 16) to win the men’s event.  Congratulations Dan.

Nan Meagher won the women’s best score with a very tidy 17 nett.  A birdie 2 on the 14th hole went a long way to helping Nan’s winning score.

The team event was won by Beau Elkin, Rod Elkin, Marg Griffiths and some other old bloke who they carried over the line.

The sausages were outstanding, as always.  Everyone had fun.

Next Monday is the last week for this popular event.  Come along and enjoy the fun.

Thursday 30/11/2018- Stableford

On a very hot day for golf, the scores were scorching too with Andrew Smith back burning for a magnificent 76 off the stick, handicap of 15 and nett 61 with a stableford score of 45 points – a day or two too early for the Monthly medal though…..can he repeat it?.
