Final of Thursday Championship & Stableford 5/10/2017

A good field of 73 turned out today to try and grab the Thursday Championship title for 2017 from the 2nd round leader, Al Sperling, who had a two round total of 69 points.  The Course is in terrific shape as fairway and rough cutting has commenced, so apart from the slick greens, there was no real excuse for ordinary golf.

However most of us were able to produce some run of the mill scores today, apart from Peter Hobson who produced Best Score of the Day with a blistering 39 points.

Al Sperling sadly didn’t better either of his previous two rounds score and was hanging onto the lead at 69 points. Peter Hobson had a best 2nd round of 30, and with today’s 39, joined Al on 69 points.

Greg Ellt was joint 1st round leader with 36 points, but faded out of contention as did local plumber Stuart Harry who played with Jessica during the school holidays, and had Won the day with Best 2nd round score of 36 points, but was back at work today and missed out.

With a 36 points in the first round, and 34 points in today’s round, one the Club’s best lefties, finished with a total of 70 points and much to his surprise, Doug Clemann was crowned Thursday Champion.

1st Round Thursday Stableford Championship – Thursday 21/9/2017

A good field of 80 golfers enjoyed what turned out to be a pretty tough windy day at Leongatha today, with the Best score of the Day being decided on countback and going to Greg Ellt on 36 points.

Sharing that score was Doug Clemann, who took out A Grade. A score of 36 points also gives Greg and Doug equal lead in the Thursday Championships which is decided upon by the best two, of three possible rounds.

BJS Insurance Top Gun Update -14 Sept 2017

Today Thursday the 14th September was supposed to be the first Round of the Thursday Championship however this stableford event was postponed due to the wet conditions of the Course which also prevented cart use.

What that means is another lost opportunity to improve on your best stableford score, to qualify for the BJS Insurance Top Gun Shootout in November.

Despite the recent wintery conditions there have been some big moves since my last update and they were from Tyler Marotti (39) closely followed by Denis Wallace (38).

The Top Qualifier’s at the moment are Chris Leaver and Tyler Marotti, both on 39 and the Men’s Captain is desperately hanging on to the 19th qualifying position with 32 points. So now’s as good as time as any to get in and knock off the Men’s Captain, all you need is a lazy 33 points.

See you on the Course and don’t forget to let me know when I’m out of the top 19. This weather doesn’t affect my play, I’m terrible all the time… but I have this saying which I repeat to myself  and share with you for next it’s raining ;

In any weather you will see us with a grin
Risking head and shin
If we’re behind then never mind
We’ll fight and fight and win

Many thanks again to BJS Insurance for their continuing support of this event.

2017 OWEN McMICKING PLATE -UPDATE

The Owen McMicking Plate bubbles along each year underpinned by the Men’s Monthly Medal Nett stroke results, during the period of March to October.

Of those eight (8) stroke rounds, your lowest five (5) scores automatically count towards the final of the Plate,  the winner having the lowest aggregate nett stroke score over five (5)  best rounds.

The next Monthly Medal to be held on October 14th, will decide the winner of the Owen McMicking Plate for 2017.

If you have already played in 5 Monthly Medals since March 2017, this will be your last chance to improve on your highest nett score. That is to say you will need to score a lower nett score than your current highest score that counts towards your total.

If you have only played in 4 Monthly Medals this will also be you last chance to seal the deal with a blistering round.

Currently Russell Williams is setting the pace with an aggregate score of 366, however, with the best nett round being a 64 since March, anyone could front up and steal the plate.

You can see from the sample of scores below, that it could be anyone’s title if they play to their best…. well almost anyone’s.

See you at the Club house and good golfing.

Tuesday 12 September 2017 -4BBB Aggregate

Tuesday’s 4BBB saw a small field of 34 players start the round in reasonable conditions with the threat of rain.  Rain was expected and arrived early in the round although light, it was constant as there was no wind about.  By the start of the 2nd nine, the rain was more consistent and greens became water logged, and a large percentage of the field withdrew due to the conditions. However some groups continued on and finished their rounds, finding most greens playable although wet.

Best score of the day went to Wendy Anne Parker and Andy Bassett with a combined score of 58 points (although Wendy Anne had 33 of those points.) For full results click here:

Men’s Monthly Medal – September 2

The first Monthly Medal of Spring was won by Colin Moyle with a very impressive 70 nett.  Well done Colin.

A grade was won by new member John Wheatley  with 71 nett on a countback from two others.  John had a top day, nearly holing out on 14 and duly winning nearest the pin.  John’s mate and fellow new member, Tim Hogan,  hit a beauty  to on 16 to just over a metre to win the other NTP.

Doug Clemann has snuck out to B grade and duly showed his prowess to clean up in B grade with 74 nett.
