Women’s Pennant Monday 10th April
The last round of pennant was played today, with no joy for the Section 1 team who went down 4/1 to Meeniyan, the winners of this section. Colleen Touzel was our only winner on the day. Unfortunately our No 1 team is now relegated to section 2, we will have two teams in this section next year. Congratulations to Meeniyan Golf Club who have won this section for the second successive year, a very good effort.
Section 2 did not play in this round and finished second on the ladder. Korumburra won this section and they will now move up to section 1. Well done Korumburra.
Section 3 had little joy on the last day, winning only two games against the section winners Welshpool. Coral Gray and Louise Schache were our winners. Leongatha 3 now goes down to section 4. Congratulations go to Welshpool, a good effort for a small club.
Section 4 provided the highlight of the YEAR by coming from behind to win their section by one game. Starting the day 4 points and 2 1/2 games behind Woorayl a win was mathematically possible but not probable. However when our girls defeated Meeniyan 3 1/2 – 1 1/2 Korumburra helped us out by defeating Woorayl 5/0 to allow us to draw level on points and go to 17 matches won, one ahead of Woorayl. This means section 4 winners will go up to section 3, so in reality Leongatha will still have one team in section 3 and one team in section 4.
The winners yesterday were Loris Clark, Sue Woods, Lianne Adamson, Sue Bowler squared her match and Marg Griffiths just lost a close match. Others players to play for the victorious team over the season have been Louise Schache, Lynda Bassett, Jan Brownlie, Karen Orford and Libby Seebeck.
Congratulations to all for bringing home a flag to our club.
Men’s Stableford Saturday April 8
77 players played in some tough windy conditions. Best score of the Day went to Jason Dennerley with a good score of 36 points on c/b. The B-Grade winner was Neale Gillin with 35 points. Allan Schache won C-Grade with a good score of 36.

S.G.W.G.Assoc. Bowl held at Leongatha 7th April 2017
In perfect conditions, both course and weather, 60 women from all 9 clubs in the South Gippsland District took part in the annual Bowl. With the aggregate stableford points from each team of 3 players, the winners with a score of 88 points was Leongatha 1, closely followed by Wonthaggi 1 87 pts, Wonthaggi 2 85 pts and Phillip Island 85 pts.
The winning Leongatha team was Maxine Eabry 26 pts, Trish Owen 33 pts and Marg Griffiths 29 pts. Well done team!

Women’s Stroke Monthly Medal 5/4/2017
In magnificent weather 34 women played for the April Monthly Medal, kindly sponsored by Louise Schache.Toni West shot 77 off the stick ,her lowest score ever on our Red course to win the Monthly Medal . Her score was 77- 10 nett 67. Well done Toni, that was just brilliant. Toni was also the winner of A Grade with her nett 67 . It was no surprise that Toni also won the putting with 27 putts. Scratch event this month was for B Grade players and the winner was Marg Griffiths with 102. Marg was also the B Grade handicap winner with a nett score of 74 from her 28 handicap. Sue Bowler was C Grade winner 102 – 31 – 71 nett. Nearest the pin 4th Toni West 12.5m and 16th Louise Schache 4.75m
Seven players took part in the 9 hole comp on the front 6 of the Green Course. The winner was Marion Chalmers with 21 points on a count back from Gwen Chapman

Round 1 Men’s Tuesday Championship – 4 April 2017.
On a very pleasant day for golf and the first round of the Tuesday Championship, the Best Round of the Day went to the Men’s Captain, Andy Bassett with a 39 points.

Men’s Pennant – Round 3
Sunday 2nd April was a good day for LGC Pennant Teams with all three Divisions scoring wins.
Div 2 played Phillip Island at Meeniyan and won by 4 Matches to 3 with Chris Leaver and Russell Williams each winning 1 up , Tom Sorell 5/4 up and Michael O’Keefe 7/6 up. Tom Williamson lost a close one on the 17th ,Matt Bowey was beaten 3/2 and Leroy Sharrock lost his match 5/4.
Div 3 played at Wonthaggi against Woorayl and won 5 matches to 2. Grant McRitchie and Nathan Wardle both won their matches on the 18th hole, Brendan Simon won 2/1, Colin Bear won 5/3 up, and Peter Dowling won 7/6. Bruce Hutton went down 5/4 and Luke Drummond went down 8/7.
Div 5 played at Lang Lang against Welshpool and won 6 matches to 1. Denis Wallace and Keith Finney both won 1 up, Tim McCarty won 3/2 up, Alex and Nick Hill each won 4/3 up and John McLennan won 5/3 up. Michael Oliver went down 3/2 in a close tussle.
The Captains are happy they have full teams and the results reflect the closeness of the competitions.

Leongatha Golf Club Women’s Pennant Results 3rd April 2017
Once again there were some good individual performances, but the only positive team result was in Section 4 where Leongatha squared with the ladder leader Woorayl.
Section 1 went down to Foster 3 1/2 – 1 1/2 with Colleen Touzel the only winner defeating Trudi Prue 3/1 and Wendy Parker squaring with Robyn Galloway, which was a great result. Toni West lost to Barb Warren, Dot Stubbs lost to Gale Tyers and Marg Berry lost to Beth Curram. We are only 2 pts above Wonthaggi on the ladder, so need a win next week against Meeniyan (tough assignment against the ladder leaders who have an unassailable lead) or Foster to defeat Wonthaggi. Nail biting stuff.
Section 2 played their last game this week just losing to Korumburra 3/2.Trish Owen defeated Chris Rickard and Marea Maher overcame Carrie Harding. Maxine Eabry lost to Lee Clements, Pat Pease lost to Joan Peters and Kerry Hogan went down to Heather Grist. With Korumburra already headed for Section 1 next year we are relying on the results of the two games next week to avoid relegation. At the moment we are two points ahead of Lang Lang and Meeniyan so would hope one of those teams are defeated so we will remain ahead of them on points.
Section 3 lost to Phillip Island to remain firmly on the bottom of the ladder. Coral Gray won against Lyn Ward, and Marianne Leaver defeated Sharon Davie. Fay Quilford lost to Wendy Hopkins, Shirley Welsford lost to Liz O’Neill, and Louise Schache lost to Ros Reid. Whilst all players have been trying hard it is inevitable this team is headed for section 4 next year.
Section 4 did very well against the ladder leaders Woorayl, squaring the match. Marg Griffiths played very well to defeat Elly Berryman 6/5, Sue Woods defeated Ann Poole and Libby Seebeck squared with Inge Gilliam. Loris Clark lost to Heather Sullivan and Sue Bowler lost to Marg Tuckett. There would have to be exceptional results next week for Leongatha to move past second place on the ladder, most likely Woorayl will remain in first place.
Friday Night 9 Hole – Big Hole Competition.
With the end of daylight saving, Friday night Big Hole events have well and truly finished. Commencing in line with daylight savings, the Friday night 9 hole competition uses bigger diameter holes on the back nine greens at LGC.
Anyone can enter and handicaps are not necessary. It’s a case of come out amd play golf and enjoy yourself.
The competition begun over the Christmas holiday period and each player’s best four stableford rounds were taken into account for the overall winner.
This year the winner is Louise Schache with 81 points. Well done to Louise.
Wendy Brown and Colin Bear tied for second with 77 points just nudging out Rod Brown with 76 points.

Final of the 2017 Summer Putting Competition
A vocal crowd of golf players and spouses watched the finals of this year’s summer putting competition. In a new format to the draw to reduce walkovers in the early rounds, the resultant finals were played as a round robin format between three players on either side of the draw.
In a change from last year, this years final was an all Men event with all the Women having been early casualties.
The Greenkeepers had prepared a very slick putting circuit with the green like glass and hole layout challenging from the very short puts to a long par 3 like hole. The layout had a touch of “Dennis” about it if I may say so, as it was a very testing track. A very good course for putters at this high level of competition nevertheless.
Results:
Group A
Barry Stevens played Hugh Goodman in a close encounter before Hugh finished the match on the 17th hole 2 up.
Barry then played Doug Clemann and missed a chance on the 18th to seal a win before Doug bounced back and won the 20th hole to win the match.
Doug then played Hugh Goodman, and by this stage had his eye in and finished the match 5/4. With two wins, Doug earnt his spot in the grand final.
Group B
Peter Waters continued on his 2016 winning form with a very tight win over Dave Vorwerg finishing the match 2 up. It was an ominous sign as Peter sank some very good long putts.
Pete then played Craig Hams and the 1st 9 holes was fairly even with Craig saving a very long missed 1st putt on the 9th to square that hole. Craig then hit his straps and sank everything in sight, finishing the match in great style winning 5/4 over Peter.
At one game each to Peter and Craig, it seemed they might be going towards a sudden death knock out game with all three players in the same match, if Dave Vorwerg could beat Craig Hams in what was possibly the last round robin match.
Dave and Craig battled well with each taking the lead at one stage but in the end, Craig had his putting stick on fire and eventually won 3 /2 up, putting Craig straight into the grand final playoff against Doug Clemann.
The putting final between Doug Clemann and Craig Hams was another tight match through the first 9 holes without either securing a match winning lead.
The putting was excellent with some great putts holed by both players, however Craig finished in top gear winning the contest on the 16th hole 3 up-2 to go.
A great win and well deserved.
