Darren Lehmann Plays Leongatha

Hi All,

I thought you would be interested to know that we had an illustrious guest play at our course on Wednesday

Fresh after piloting the Aussie Cricket team to a 4-0 Ashes win against England in Sydney on Monday, the Australian Cricket Coach, Darren Lehmann, played a round of golf at Leongatha Golf Club with his local business partner and Leongatha member, Stuart Wigney. Accompanying them were  our 5-time Club Champion, Michael Thomas, and Club Secretary Greg Welsford. Lehmann, a 13 handicapper, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at the club, was impressed with the standard and condition of the course and vowed to return when he finds time.

Peter Waters

Whisky Day Stableford – December 14

The midweek shotgun starts concluded for the year with the very popular Whisky Day event.

Some tricky pin placements meant scores weren’t as red hot as in past weeks but a few players still starred with some great scores.

Russell Williams won A grade with 39 points, then promptly won a nice little Christmas bonus in the Joker Poker draw.  Marilyn also won nearest the pin on the 16th so the whisky will be flowing over the festive season in the Williams household.

Peter Waters had a tremendous 40 points to win B grade on a countback from Trevor Steer.  Pete got the bigger bottle of whisky but Trevor left with a nice bottle of JW under his arm

Ian Watson finished the 2017 shotgun year in great style with 39 points to clean up in C grade.

Five Hole Golf League

Five Hole Golf League Monday 11th December 2017

Tonight was the last night of our 5 hole golf league event. We had 27 players take part. Great weather once again & great sausage sizzle to match. Thanks again to Rod Spokes of Leongatha Fresh Meat & Fish for his generous donation of sausages for this event. Tonight’s team event was won by Team Mizuno members John & Lesley Renwick & Glenys & Barry Day with the best 3 scores of 53. That score was the lowest for our whole 5 week season. It was “Renwick Night” as Lesley won the best ladies prize with nett 15 and John with nett 17 ( just pipping young Beau Elkin by one shot). Beau became so good playing from the 150m markers that the last 3 rounds he has played from the Women’s Green Tees as we felt he was ready for a tougher challenge. The best team attenders were Team Trease- Len, his son Geoff & two grandsons Vincent & Aaron. Team Manners Dennis, his dad John, brother Brendon & brother in law Anthony. Father & son team od Rod & Beau Elkin played all the rounds too. The format has been a lot of fun with 155 rounds played by 73 players over the past five weeks. Thanks you to those who played, cooked sausages, helped run the events & John Payne who served our drinks & solved all our problems.

WATCH THIS SPACE as we may run this event again in Feb/March

Stableford – December 5

Scores in the 40’s aplenty today.  37 points needed to win a ball, our golfers are in red hot form.

Tony Roberts was our stand out with 43 points to win C grade.  Frank Smedley had a very handsome 42 points but sadly only collected a golf ball for his efforts.

Craig Hams belted them long down the fairway to win A grade with 41 points.

Geoff Maher won B grade on a countback with 40 points.

Monday night 5 hole event

Another perfect evening for golf.  Monday golf wins again.

Dan Monaghan had the best score of the night (nett 16) to win the men’s event.  Congratulations Dan.

Nan Meagher won the women’s best score with a very tidy 17 nett.  A birdie 2 on the 14th hole went a long way to helping Nan’s winning score.

The team event was won by Beau Elkin, Rod Elkin, Marg Griffiths and some other old bloke who they carried over the line.

The sausages were outstanding, as always.  Everyone had fun.

Next Monday is the last week for this popular event.  Come along and enjoy the fun.

Monday Golf League – November 27

Monday night golf is the best way to start the week.

26 players participated in tonight’s 5 hole event with Team Trease winning the night with 57 nett.  Congratulations to Team Trease team members Aaron Trease, Vincent Trease, Eddy Colwill and Len Trease.

The best male score of the night was won by Rod Elkin with a very neat nett 18.

Lesley Renwick went back-to-back to again win the best female score of the night with a stunning nett 16.

Lyn Shaw shot a PB (Personal Best) nett 31 to win the Super Score prize.

Brendan Manners knocked it dead, well almost dead, to win the NTP (Nearest The Pin) on the 14th hole.

Eli Hall broke 50 and won the Youngest Player Award for the night.

The weather is always perfect for golf on Monday nights so we hope to see you teeing up next Monday night.
