Today the South Gippsland Combined side hosted Settlers Run at Lang Lang Golf Club in the final home and away round of the Under 18 Pennant competition for Region 5.
Representative Cricket and the Golf World cup made us a little light on for “seasoned golfers” this weekend but as one door closes another opens and in steps another of Josh and John’s Junior Clinic brigade.
Today was Danny Buissink’s first 18 holes of golf since earning his handicap, and first day of pennant. He was accompanied by Miles Wrigley, a seasoned veteran of two previous pennant games, but Danny always looked as though he was at home on the Course.
There was no fairy tale today and Danny was beaten by Hayden Waters, 6/5 and Miles lost to Matt Phillips 5/3 in a great tussle. That was Hayden’s first win after starting pennant last year and going through until now without a win. That is a great example for both Danny and Miles, that a win is not that far away, you just need to stick with it.
Proud pennant player Danny Buissink after his first match, still smiling after a hard day at the office.
The team shared the other 4 matches winning two and losing two finishing with an overall loss to Settlers Run 2-4.
Charlie May lost 5/4 to Jack Harrison.
Jacob Taberner beat Dylan Sauders 5/4
Oscar Harry beat Chad Mulvogue 4/2 and
Jessica Harry lost 3/1 to Blake Pullen.
Our run is over this year, no finals this time round.
Well done to Lang Lang Golf Club for allowing us to use their Course as our home ground, as it is the closest South Gippsland Course to the metro area. Well done to Ruth May for looking after the kids each home match with a good feed and drinks.
Thanks to all the parents who caddied for their young golfers and helped managing the team when I couldn’t, and thanks to Denis Wallace for coming out today and experiencing some of Junior golf and caddying for Danny in his first game.
From the enthusiasm of the players, it looks like we can back on having another go next year.

A good field of 63 enjoyed the best weather for months, and although playing on the freshly cored greens, returned some very presentable scores.
The Ladies joined the field today after losing their competition day this week due to coring, and joined in with nearest the pin on the 14th going to Maryanne Gartner with 1.3 M.
The group of Helen and Neil Mackenzie, Alan Kuhne and Michael Street took out the Ambrose with a nett score of 60.375 off a handicap of 11.625.

Another fantastic effort by an under staffed South Gippsland Junior team this week, at home at Lang Lang Golf Club against Cranbourne Golf Club.
With cricket, holidays and work taking six players we were lucky to have a new team member available for this game. The results were excellent considering we gave away a walk over in the 6th match, being one short.
Matches played went as follows:
1- Jacob Taberner beat Tom Ryan in a tight tussle 1 up.
2- Will Christensen beat Anslie Kyle Range comfortably 5 & 4.
3- Rafferty Meyer-Heinrich beat Max Fedmowski 3 & 2
4- Jessica Harry squared her match against Patrick Carlon and
5- Miles Wrigley lost his match 10/8 to Adam Bloomberg
6- Walkover – Loss 10/8 to Tyler Foote
Well done again to Miles in only your second match. Your learning curve is steep but you took on the challenge well. Hope to see you back next season. Congratulations to Rafferty who was very nervous playing his first game for the team although he has been playing golf for some time. He came through with the goods.
With only two matches left, the Team play The National at Frankston’s Long Island Course. Tee Off is 1.00pm so please be there by 12.00 noon
The selected Team is:
1. Alex Geyer
2. Charlie May
3. Joel Bran
4. Jacob Taberner
5. Oscar Harry
6. Jessica Harry
Emergency is Will Christensen
