2015 BJS INSURANCE TOP GUN FINAL 19

BJS INSURANCE TOP GUN SHOOTOUT FINAL

A great finish by Hugh Goodman today with 37 points on this the final qualifying round after 16 weeks. It proves the old adage that “it’s never over ’til its over”.  37 points put Hugh in the mix for the Top Gun Shootout Final with the Top 19 qualifiers now being settled.

With  the earlier withdrawal of Bryan McCorkell and Peter Walsh from the final 19 due to other commitments, Chris Leaver and Norm Hughes hung on with gritted teeth, to positions 18 and 19 for the final.

This left Marea Maher and last years Pop Gun knocking on the door.  It is extremely important that we have 19 starters for the final, so I remind those players in the Top 19, should your circumstances change and you have to withdraw, please let Marea Maher or the club, know as soon as possible.

A briefing will be given by Starter and Play controller, Trevor Steer at 08.45am and Tee Off begins at 09.00am sharp this Sunday, so please be at the Course and register with Trevor at the latest by 08.30am. The weather, I hear, should be in the high 20’s so a perfect day for golf.

It is adviseable to have your “ball marked really well” so you can readily identify it, as there will be 19 of them in play after the first Tee off.  Have a few marked in case you lose one.

The Club will have a drinks cart following the field from which you can purchase the usual hydrations, and a bbq will be provided to players as they round the turn at the 9th.

Spectators are encouraged, and a few spotters would probably speed up play so get into the fun of the day and cruise around with the field and support your tip for the final.

One player will be eliminated each hole and they will be the person with the lowest stableford score for the hole.  If more than one player  has the same low score, then they will participate in a chip off to nearest to the pin. The player finishing furthest from the pin, being eliminated.  The rest progress to the next hole.

We would like to thank our sponsors BJS Insurance for supporting this event. Congratulations to all players that entered and in particular, to the following 19 Top Gun finalist for 2015:

2015 BJS Insurance Top Gun Shootout Update

11 October Update: BJS Insurance Top Gun Shootout.

Two weeks today until the final Shootout and Keith Godridge seems to have assured himself of a place in the final with a solid 38 points in the Monthly medal.

The Course continues to improve as does the weather so I am expecting the final Top 19  stableford point scorers has not been “set” as yet, so keep the rounds coming, and if you are still contemplating entering then get in and sign up at the front desk before next you play.  $15 to enter and an amazing $350 first prize voucher.

Oh well, maybe next round for me, if only I could stop firing blanks.  But I live in hope as some big names are teetering on the brink.

2015 BJS Insurance Top Gun Shootout Update

BJS Insurance Top Gun Update 3rd October 2015

Just 3 weeks today (Sunday 25th October) and the show down between the top 19 LGC “gunslingers” will be decided.  Qualifying ends on Thursday the 22nd of October so just over two weeks to decide if you want to take part in this classic Shootout final.

The Course is nearly as good as it gets and the fairways are again a delight to play off and run is back, with the greens faster and true.

Some great scores are being recorded, consistently by some members of both genders, but alas, some haven’t entered Top Gun as yet.  New names on the leader board with Rod Hopcraft making the biggest leap this week.

Unfortunately the “pop gun” is struggling, my cork is hanging by a thread, eight rounds left to qualify….I Can do it… I will be there.

Trainee Pro-Am Results – Monday 21st September 2015

CPbNuDqVEAA1LQ-

28 trainee golf professionals from around Victoria took part in the 2nd running of the Leongatha Trainee Pro-Am on Monday 21st September.Players were greeted with sunny conditions for the 10am start but come day’s end, the wind was up, the temperature down and a steady drizzle was coming in.

72 from Flinders trainee Josh Shaw was a great score to take home the winner’s cheque in trying conditions.   He finished one clear of 3 others on the day.   A special mention goes out to Luke Bleumink who aced the 137 metre 14th hole.

For full professional results please visit www.pga.org.au

For the teams event, Josh Shaw’s visiting group from Flinders Golf Club of Gryff Shaw, Steve Alexander and Jordy Durso took the honours with a stableford score of 82 points.  The individual amateur winner was Bob Prowse on 35 points in a count back from John Moor.

A special thank you to volunteers who assisted with scoring, catering and bar duties on the day.   All players were very complimentary of the event and in particular the condition of the golf course.

2015 BJS Insurance Top Gun Shootout- Update

BJS Insurance Top Gun Update:

With a little over 4 weeks before the final and the Course drying, we are starting to see more big scores coming in.  Dylan Clark was the big mover this week improving his best Top Gun score by 9 points to equal leader on 41 points with Geoff Maher.

A number of other great scores were recorded since the last Update but unfortunately those players have not yet signed up.  It’s never too late so get in quick.

I might have been “pop gun” last year but I’m right in the firing line to drop out of this year’s final if I don’t improve on my 34 points. See you on the Course.

2015 BJS Insurance Top Gun Shootout Update

BJS Insurance Top Gun Update as of 5/9/15

What a difference a month has made to our fabulous Course with the greens becoming fast and the fairways drying out substantially. The extra work Dylan and Tom have put into the Greens lately is certainly paying dividends.

The next six weeks before the cut off day for the Top Gun Shootout will be vital to the makeup of the final nineteen (19).

Last update only 3 players had scored higher than last years minimum qualifying score of 36 points and the leader Tom Sorrell, was sitting on 39 points.

As of  the end of  yeterday, Saturday 5th September, we have 10 players equal to or higher than 36 points and the new leader, Geoff Maher is sitting on a very safe 41 points.  Our top lady entrant, Coral Gray, is on a comfortable 38 points.

There are 9 of the current top 19 who are below last years qualifying minimum having  scored between 33-35 points to date, and together with the 4 players on 36 points (including the reigning Top Gun), all may well be on shaky grounds if the improving scores continue as the weather and playing conditions do likewise.

The most exciting part of this competition is that it’s never too late to enter except after you hit that sweet game.   Remember if you’re a member of LGC (any category) and are coming down for a competition game, don’t forget to sign up for Top Gun before you play,  it’s only $15 and top prize for the Shootout Final is a $350 voucher.

Based on the current scores I would confidently say that at least 13 places in the Shootout Final are still up for grabs… so come on down and score one.

BJS Insurance 2015 Top Gun Shootout Update

BJS Insurance Top Gun Shootout Update

Still early, cold and wet days in the qualifying lead up to this year’s BJS Insurance Top Gun Shootout. Numbers have (swelled) to 26 including 4 of our ladies  of whom, 50% are currently ranked in the Top 19.

Substantial results of 41, 40, 39, and a couple of 38’s have been scored by Club members, some of whom were  past or present Shootout entrants, but alas, at the that time of shooting that big score, the player had not yet signed up for this year’s event.  You never know when that great score is going to happen so get in early and sign on before your next super round happens.

Based on last year’s qualifying results, probably only the top six of todays rankings are likely to be in contention for the final, so let’s get out there and give it another round.

(I’d hate to see the reigning 2014 TopGun -no names -but curently 16th..miss out this on year’s final, running waaayyy behind the PopGun -currently 7th).
