Chas Hyland Cup Final

The Chas Hyland Cup final was played on Friday 5th May. The Hyland Cup is an annual Men’s knockout Matchplay event played in memory of Chas Hyland. This year’s event commenced in February with 54 entrants and culminated in a play off between Jon R Smith (14) and Malcolm Legge (18).  Malcolm was going into the Final in good form, having taken out the Monthly Medal recently.  The Hyland Cup is one event at LGC which Jon hasn’t been able to win over the years despite having been in the final many times, and he was hoping to rectify that on Friday.  Alas it wasn’t to be.

Jon later told me how the match went, and said, “It was all over on the 13th, I didn’t play badly but Malcolm was on song, he had 8 one putts and 1 no putts.”

Thursday 4/5/2017 – Stableford

What a great day for golf….best round of the day went to Allan Schache with a sweet 40 points…as he said at presentation, “almost, but not quite as sweet as the news today of our expectant daughter with our first  grandchildren ….twins… what a great day”

W.McCaughan 4BBB Results

The W McCaughan 4BBB Par and Scratch event has been run and won over Saturday 22nd and 29th of April.

With mother nature dishing out some wet and challenging conditions this last weekend, 71 off the stick by Jason Dennerley and Leroy Sharrock on the first round, would be hard to match.

Best scratch round on the second week was a 73 by Barry Attwood and Russell Williams but with a first round of 76 their combined two round total of 149 was well earned but the title shaky.

Finally, with all cards in, and with a very good score again of 74, the winners of the W McCaughan 4BBB Scratch event for 2017, are Jason Dennerley & Leroy Sharrock with a two round total of  145, over Barry Attwood & Russell Williams with 149, and Trevor Rickard & Steve Fisher on 160.

The leaders from the first week, of the W McCaughan 4BBB Par event with a best round score +10 were Chris Leaver & Peter Hartigan, however with a second round of +2, they knew they were in for a fight for the title.

Three groups finished the two rounds on +12, with the eventual winners identified by countback are John Dumont & Alan Kuhne, from Russell Williams & Barry Attwood ,and Peter Hartigan & Chris Leaver. One shot behind on +11 was the team of Jason Dennerley & Leroy Sharrock.

Well done to all those who competed in this event.

John King 4BBB Stableford

86 players bid our friend and great club man, John King, farewell today.  Our best wishes to John and our thanks to him for his contribution to the club.

Today’s winners with 45 points were Josh Hall and Michael Thomas.  A stunning 30 of the stick on the back nine helped them beat Peter Hartigan and Trevor Moss on a countback.

John Dumont and Alan Kuhne took out 3rd prize with 44 points.

Update on Tuesday Championships

With two rounds completed of the Men’s Tuesday Plate, and 88 players having played across the last two Tuesday’s, things are hotting up with Geoff McDonald clinging onto a one stroke lead with a Best Two Round total of 69 points.

Following closely behind is Terry Grace with 68 points and then a gaggle of other players within striking distance.

With the format being Best two Rounds of Three, this event always goes down to the wire on the last round, which is next Tuesday 16th April.  There are at least 64 players who could slip past Geoff’s current score should any one of them shoot the best score of the two rounds so far, which has been a very handy 39 points.

With 45 players having put in only one score in the first two rounds, I am expecting it will be a full field next Tuesday to have a go at the title.  26 degree’s and sunny I hear, what a day for golf.

Beware the sleepers!

The top ten scores so far are:
