Entries for the 2016 Hyland Cup singles match play event will open tomorrow, Saturday 26th March and will close on Saturday 9th April. An entry sheet will be posted on the noticeboard in the pro- shop.
This most prestigious Board event carries a rich history within the Club and is open to male members from the following categories:
Full, Senior, District, Honorary, Junior or Country.
Once entries close a random draw will be undertaken and the first round is due to be completed by Sunday 15th May. Entry is free. The current holder of the Hyland Cup is David Forbes.
We encourage you all to enter the event as handicaps tend to take care of differences in ability and result in contests that are usually very even.
Any further enquiries about the event can be directed to the Men’s Captain, Peter Waters.
The day was once again generously sponsored by our life member Col Sperling.

The 2016 Men’s Pennant season kicked off today with both our Div 3 and 4 teams engaged in matches against Wonthaggi. Our Div 3 team played at Korumburra and won 4 -3 in a tightly contested event. Unfortunately our Div 4 team went down to Wonthaggi 5 -2 at Wonthaggi.
Report on Div 3 match at Korumburra against Wonthaggi:
Division 3 emerged with a hard fought win against Wonthaggi 4 matches to 3. Brendan Simon, Peter Dowling and Rod Mackenzie all went neck and neck with their opponents for most of the match but each was able to power home to post a victory. Brendan won 2 up, while Peter and Rod both won 2-1. With three players sustaining loosses, the contest went to the 7th match in which Bryan Sword came back from being 2 down for much of the match to win 1 up.
Captain Chris Indian lost his match on the 22nd hole, obviously not fancying going up Webb’s Horror for a second time in the day!
The next round (round 2) is to be played on Sunday 3rd April, with our Div 3 side taking on Meeniyan at Meeniyan.
Div 4’s Captain Colin Bear’s report on the match at Wonthaggi is as follows:
Division 4 started the season with a hard fought loss to home side Wonthaggi, 5 matches to 2. No doubt a few of our boys will be better for the run and we’ll see a few better results in the coming weeks.. It was very pleasing to see non-playing captain, Andy Bassett, wandering around the course encouraging his team after his little stay in hospital. Andy was looking fit enough to take his place in the team.
Debutant Dennis Wallace (1 up) and Gene Vanderzalm (3/2) were the winners for the team, with Bryan McCorkell being unlucky to get pipped on the 19th. The other team members put up a good fight but were just couldn’t overcome the home course advantage.
The next match is at home against Korumburra on April 3rd.
It was great to see some new blood out there today. We hope you enjoyed the experience.

Hi Guys and Gals,
Although we have already had a good number of entries for this teams-based event, we still require a few more before entries close on Wednesday 30th March.
After entries have closed the teams will be formed via a “draft” in which talent, both male and female, will be evenly spread. The season proper will kick off in the week commencing Monday 4th April, and will run until about mid June (including the finals).
The entry fee is a very reasonable $10, payable at the pro shop and gives you and your teammates the chance to win somevery good prizes. This year we have been very fortunate to secure sponsorship from the Esplanade Hotel, Inverloch (thanks Dylan) so there will be a weekly prize (a $30 Espy voucher) for the best-performed player in each round, as well as prizes to each of the players in the winning and runnersup teams.
In addition ot the above, there will be a “Brownlow Medal-type” prize for the best performed player of the series, and also a “Norm Smith-type” prize for the best player of the final. This year they will be called the Nancy and Colin Sperling Awards in honour of our esteemed husband and wife life members.
So, don’t waste any time in getting you entry in. The competition generates a lot of good nateured banter around the Club and is a great teams-based event to participate in.
