LGC Men’s Pennant Results – Round 1.

Round 1 of the SGDGA Men’s Pennant was played on Sunday 19th.

With 12 regular players missing from the three teams, it was pleasing to see others stepping up to have a game.

Our Div 2 Team, Captained by Tom Sorrell, played at Korrumburra Golf Club against Foster GC and came away with the very close fought 4-3 win.

Div 3 Team, Captained by Brendan Simon played at Phillip Island GC against Meeniyan GC and received a 1-6 pounding  with only the experienced hand, Bruce Hutton serving up enough curry to his opponent, for a win.

Div 5 Team, Captained by Denis Wallace, came home with a 4-3 win over Wonthaggi GC after Nick Hill seized the advantage on the 20th hole to secure his hard fought game.

With some of the regulars back this week, we are looking forward to next Sunday.

Gentsomes

46 players enjoyed the Gentsomes format.

Terry Grace, Frank Thomas, Bill Warren and Colin Bear with a score of 107 won today’s event on a countback from the awesome trio of Bruce Gibson, Bob Birrell and Craig Hams.

Down the line balls went to the group of Denis Wallace, Rod Brown, Tony Roberts and John Simon with 106 points, then Ian Trease, John Housey, Brian Fennessy and David Child with 101 points

Nearest the Pins – Alan Kuhne on the 14th to 2.2 metres and Bill Bittleman hit a beauty to 2.58m on 16.

Section 1 lost to Meeniyan 2/3, Toni West lost to Dot Christie 4/2, Dot Stubbs lost to Andrea Thorson 4/2, and Rita de Bondt lost to Sheila Constantine 1 down after fighting back from 4 down, only to be beaten by a birdie on the last. Wendy Parker def. Irene Holm 4/3 and Colleen Touzel def Dot Elliott 6/5. Only 1 match separates 1st and last on the ladder.

Section 2 def Lang 2 and 2 squares to 1 and 2 squares. Trish Owen lost to Jennifer Sullivan 2/1 in a close match, Maxine Eabry squared with Maria Warburton, Marea Maher squared with Sue Purser, Pat Pease def Sue Van Gaal 5/4 and Kerry Hogan def Leanne Marshall 8/6,  this win puts Sec. 2 second on the ladder behind Korumburra.

There is a bit of work needed here to get ourselves off the bottom of the ladder.

Section 4 had a good tussle with a strong Woorayl team going down 3/2, once again we had 2 first time pennant players so this was a good effort. Louise Schache lost to Elly Berryman 4/3, Loris Clark def Anne Poole 6/5,Libby Seebeck def Jenny Riseley 4/3, Lynda Bassett  lost to Marg Tuckett 4/3 and Lianne Adamson lost to Inge Gilliam on the 18th.  Leongatha are second on the ladder to Woorayl.
