2017 Esplanade Hotel Super League Grand Final Results

After having survived a near-death experience in their semi-final of the 2017 Esplanade Hotel Super League last week (beating the PARS on count-back), this week the BUNKERS team has powered their way to victory over the FAIRWAYS in the Grand Final.

Holding a commanding lead going into the final round of the grand-final week, the BUNKERS were assured of victory due to the difficult conditions that faced the contestants in Saturday. In fact, neither of the team scores changed from those set after Thursday.

The BUNKERS team, comprising Wendy Parker, Jon Smith, Ken Smirk, Kev Castwood, Denis Wallace, Hans Hoefler and Paul Luck, scored a best 3-person total of 108 points, to easily account for the FAIRWAYS on 88 points. They were capably led by the experienced Jon Smith (37 points), with solid contributions from Denis Wallace (36) and Kev Castwood (35). Peter Walsh posted the best score for the FAIRWAYS with 33 points, and was supported by Andy Bassett (28) and Brian Fennessy (27).

The Esplanade Hotel player of the Grand-final was Jon Smith, with his fine 37 posted in wet conditions on Tuesday.

The Club would like to take the opportunity to thank Dylan Clark from the Esplanade Hotel for again generously sponsoring the event. Thanks also to George Misson who did the lion’s share of running the event. Next year the event will be held earlier in the year to take advantage of the better weather.

The 2017 Super League season will wind up with a social 9-hole shotgun start on this coming Sunday 20th August, to be followed by a BBQ lunch. The event will be generously sponsored by George Misson and Janet Kolotelo with some good prizes on offer. Get your names down on the booking sheet ASAP.

Tuesday Stableford- 8 August 2017

On a very cool damp day when carts were not allowed on the Course,  Chris Leaver played a great game to come home with Best Score of the Day with 39 points.  That may very well cement Chris a place in the BJS Insurance Top Gun Final in November.

SuperLeague Semi Final Results.

What a thrilling end to the week of SuperLeague. Jim Arnott had anchored his Team, Pars, with a fine 35 points and solid rounds in the conditions by Neil (Macca) Mackenzie  &  Peter Hobson each with 31, looked to have the Pars set for a win, with 97 points.

Clearly however, the Player of the Week was Peter Walsh with a very good 37 points, and together with Brian Fennessy’s last gasp 29 points on Thursday helped their Team, Fairways to level with Pars, on 97 points.

The SuperLeaque rules call for countback of the best three cards in these semi final circumstances, and in this case, Fairways get the nod 49 to 46 on the total of the back nine count back scores.

In the other Semi Final, Bunkers (104) look to have a very solid team with Jon Smith (36), Hans Hoefler (34) and that deciduous Kev Castwood pruning back another 34, taking the win over OOB’s (102) led by Antony Roberts strong 36, supported by Doug Clemann (33) and Frank Gill’s last effort on Saturday with 33 (bad luck about the 7 on the 9th, partner).
