Saturday 22/10/2016 – Stableford

On a cold and windy day, a small field found the fairways slow and greens soft.  Best score of 38 points has also changed the shootout  field in the BJS Insurance Top Gun event due to be held on Sunday the 6th November.

Remember today’s final round of the Club Championship will be played next Saturday (29th) so please ensure you check the sheet on line for the seeded draws.

Thursday 20/10/2016 PAR

After another week of rain and no carts on the course,  a good field of 46 golfers turned out today to enjoy the sunshine during a round of Par.  The best round of the day was +1 by Kevin Castwood and that score was also good enough to put Kevin into the Top 19 Qualifiers for the BJS Insurance Top Gun shootout, which is due to be held on the 6th November.

The sad/happy story of the day belongs to the Men’s Captain who scored a three on the par 3 16th hole.  Nothing special you might think, but he shanked his tee shot into the area of the big wombat hole in the bush between the 16th and 17th fairways, never to be seen again.

A bit sad that shot, but like all provisional balls they go better, with his next tee shot he aced the 16th.  Didn’t even win a ball for nearest the pin.  Just a + for 3 shots, and the pleasure of knowing it can be done. Alas, that illusive hole in one.

Update: Men’s Club Championship after 2nd Round 15/10/2016

Round two of the Men’s Club Championship has been completed and the top of the leader board in each Division, is  hotting up.  In windy conditions today, there was only one par round and that was achieved by one of our up and coming juniors, Oscar Harry with a nett 70 off the stick and 36 stableford points. Unfortunately for Oscar he couldn’t play in the first round so is left wondering “what might have been”.

The six top players in each Division will be playing next Saturday in a seeded round, so watch the booking sheet for your times.  All other player  who are still in the Championships are open to book their own times.  The Championships are still wide open, so good luck next weekend.

A clarification on the grades: In the first two rounds the grades were one grade off in how they were set up in the computer.

The correct breakdown of the grades is: A 0-11, B 12-18, C 19-24, D 25-36.

Final Round of Mark Edwards Thursday Championship. 13/10/2016

Finally, the weather cleared and allowed the running of the final round of the Mark Edwards Thursday Championship.  A final field of 53 players were chasing equal score leaders, Craig Hams  and Paul Luck both on a two round total of 71 points with Craig sitting on the best second round of 37, making him the outright leader.

Another 42 players had an opportunity to snatch victory having a single round of 33 stableford points or better.

Outright leader Craig Hams rested on his laurels today (someone has to work) and could not play.  Paul Luck tried to better his first two round scores but came in a little short.  Best round of the day was 37 points by Steve Fisher but alas this was only backed up by a 27.  Then out of the blue, the last card processed, came a 33 by John McLennan

33 seemed an average score for the day, in fact it got John a down the line ball in the daily competition, but when you add it to his exceptional first round score of 39 points, it made a best two round score of 72, and John took out the title of Thursday Champion for 2016 by one stroke from Craig Hams and Paul Luck.

Well done to John, and the rest of the field, after a couple of cancelled starts due to rain.
