Hyland Cup, McCaughan 4BBB Par Championship, A win at Moe, Pennant Player of the Year.

On a busy Sunday we have three new entries to make on our Honour Boards.

Lachlan Thomas put in a top notch performance to defeat Chris Indian in the final of the Hyland Cup.   Lachie was hitting them long,  chipping in and putting like a single figure marker.  Congratulations Lachie, it is great to see one of out younger members prevail in this prestigious event.  Congratulations, too, to Chris for winning six matches to get to the final and coming within an whisker of winning this event.

The popular 36 hole event, the W McCaughan 4BBB Par Championship,  was completed today too.   The scratch event was won by the hot duo of Michael McGrath and Terry Lund with gross 138 (69/69).  One under par on both days was great going.   They had to play hard to nudge ahead of Michael Thomas and Ryan Thomas on 144.    The handicap eent was won by overnight leaders, Stuart Harry and Daniel Jolley, with +13.  They added a cool +7 to yesterday’s +6.  Champion effort to post +7 when the rest of the field was trying to chase them down.

Last night the 2019 Pennant break-up was held at the Inlet Hotel.   Chris Indian was announced as the Pennant Player of the Year after winning 6 of his 7 matches and leading his Division 3 team to the final.   Scott Blencowe also won 6 of his 7 matches to come agonisingly close to winning this prize.   Special mention to Andy Bassett in 3rd place and Tim McCarthy 4th.  Bryan McCorkell and Mark Lafferty also rated a special mention for winning all of the matches they played during the year.

Scott found another way to the winners dais when he teamed with Ian Blencowe, Tony Gedye and Richard Comerford to win the Moe Plate event.   This is the first win in the event for Leongatha GC, so thanks to these gentlemen for doing it for the ‘Gath.

Pics below of the happy winners from all of today’s events, excuse the sideways photo of the Moe champs but the author has no idea how to rotate it.

Thanks Guys for the Wonderful Condition of our Course

This past week has been THANK A SUPERINTENDENT WEEK, where we get to thank our course staff and volunteers for maintaining our course in such wonderful condition.  Unfortunately, due to the Clubhouse roof works entering their final stages and us just getting back inside the Clubhouse, it was not possible for us to thank our fabulous course staff of Dylan, Tom, Dennis and the team of volunteers as we would have wished. However, take it as read guys that we  very much appreciate your efforts in maintaining our course to such a consistently high standard.  I’m sure that I speak on behalf of all LGC golfers when I say that despite the many poor rounds we have played throughout the year, it has been an absolute joy to be out and about on such a great course maintained in such terrific condition.

Thank a Super Week

It is only when you go to other courses that you realise just how good we have got it here. I was lucky enough to recently play a round at Yarra Yarra, and while their clubhouse was pretty swish, their course was, in my unbiased opinion, no better than ours. Similarly, upon wandering around while attending the recent men’s pennant final at Phillip Island, again I was thankful I was a member here at LGC.

2019 Invy Espy Super League Final Results

In view of the fact that contestants in the 2019 Invy Espy Super League Final were unable to post a score that counted today due to the McCaughan 4BBB event, the Final has been run and won. The Possums have prevailed in a closely fought battle with the Rosellas, 145 to 143. For the Possums, best performers included Dave Forbes (39), Trevor Seebeck (36) and Wendy Parker and Trevor Steer with 35 each. For the unlucky Rosellas, David Child chimed in with 38, while Peter Waters (36), Max Hyde (35) and Geoff Maher (34) all posted useful contributions. Dave Forbes picked up the Espy voucher for being best performer of the Final, congratulations Dave. Presentations will be made to the winning team, the runners up and the male and female winners of the Rod Brown B&F awards at the club in a couple of weeks when George gets back on deck.

Once again, we would like to thank Dylan Clark from the Esplanade Hotel Inverloch for his generous sponsorship of this event. Our thanks also go to all who entered the competition this year, we had a great response with 8 teams of 8 players contesting the regular season rounds. Interestingly, the winning Possums team, and the 4th-placed Wombats both had 3 female players, while the remaining 6 teams only had 2. Well done girls, you carried your teams well all season and especially in the finals. Special thanks to George Misson who rallied the troops before the season kickoff.
