Esplanade Hotel Super League Round 3 Results

The third round of the Esplanade Hotel Inverloch Super League was completed on Saturday with some low team scores posted due to many players having only one opportunity to post a score. The following results were recorded:

Saints 136 (Geoff Sherman 38, Shirley Welsford 34) def Pies 123 (Neil Mackenzie 33, Denis Wallace 31)
Hawks 137 (Peter Waters 36, Toni West 35) def Demons 107 (David Forbes 33, Anne Gibson 28)
Tigers 120 ( Rita de Bondt 35, Bruce Cathie 30) def Dogs 115 (Peter Walsh 33)
Cats 130 (Doug Clemann 34, Colin Bear 33, Coral Gray 32) def Blues 124 (Gene Van Der Zalm 35)

Esplanade Hotel Inverloch Player of the Round winner: Geoff Sherman 38.

There is a trend appearing that the winning teams generally have more players posting scores each week. So, the message is to get your teammates out on the track!

The Ladder after round 3 is:

Played Won Drawn Lost For Against % Pts
Hawks 3 3 0 0 413 375 110.1 12
Cats 3 3 0 0 414 382 108.4 12
Tigers 3 3 0 0 398 387 102.8 12
Dogs 3 1 0 2 397 394 100.8 4
Saints 3 1 0 2 392 409 95.8 4
Demons 3 1 0 2 366 394 92.9 4
Blues 3 0 0 3 378 391 96.7 0
Pies 3 0 0 3 397 423 92.9 0

Round 4 sees the undefeated Hawks and Tigers do battle. Good luck to both teams!!

Men’s Pennant Results – Sunday 24th April

Today saw our Div 2 team suffer their first loss (4-3) in a very tight contest with Wonthaggi at Foster. Two of the games went to extra holes, with our team coming up empty-handed on both occasions! Div 2 will now need to win their next round match to ensure a place in the final.

Div 3 played Korumburra at Wonthaggi, and came away with a strong 6-1 win. This places Div 3 with 4 wins and 1 loss from 5 starts, and a further win from the final 2 rounds should see them play in the final this year.

Div 4 played Lang Lang at Woorayl, and went down 4-3 in an exciting contest. Again, several games could have gone either way. Good wins were secured by Peter Jaspers (5/4), Andy Bassett (2 up) and Bryan McCorkell (19th). The loss will probably mean that Div 4 now need to win both of their remaining matches to secure a finals berth. Highlight of the day was a shot Dan Poynton played from INSIDE the Clubhouse back towards the 9th green after his shanked approach shot rolled through an open sliding door! He chipped back onto the green, narrowly missing holing it! I have it on video an hopefully will be able to upload it to the website soon!

Attention Super League Players

Round 3, presently being played, has been affected by some unfortunate scheduling of events that has left several Super League teams short of players posting scores so far:

  • Several men played Vets at Wonthaggi on Tuesday and Thursday’s event is an Ambrose. Saturday sees the completion of the McCaughan 4BBB Par event.
  • Similarly, some ladies were playing in the Cashin Trophy matchplay event yesterday and did not post an individual stableford score.

Given the shortage of scores in so far and in an attempt to have round 3 completed this week, we have decided to allow individual scores from the 4BBB events scheduled for Saturday. We note that there are many Super League players, both men and ladies playing on Saturday and we are hopeful that their individual scores will result in most, if not all teams having 4 players post a score by Saturday night. In addition to your team MiClub card, please collect an “old” Leongatha card for each Super League player and have a marker score your round as an individual par round. After your round on Saturday please put your individual card in the wooden scorecard box near the MiClub card reader.

Good scoring!!!

Men’s Pennant Results – Sunday 17th April 2016

Coming off a big first round win last week, our Div 2 team faced a much tougher challenge this week, playing Lang Lang at Wonthaggi. Our old stagers in Russell Williams and Bruce Hutton both went down, while the others all managed to win. Matt Bowey (3-1) and Anthony Sparkes (5-3) had comfortable wins, while Tom Williamson and Leroy Sharrock both posted 2 up wins. Tom Sorrell won on the 20th over our former member, Rob Bride. Two wins from 2 starts puts our Div 2 team in good shape to play finals, although they will still have to win at least another game to make sure.

Our Div 3 team was short several players from the previous week and struggled  against Foster at Woorayl. They went dowon 5-2, with Captain Chris Indian (7-6) and Rod Mackenzie (6-5) posting our only wins . Three wins from 4 starts still has our Div 3 team on track to play finals, but they also must win at least 2 more games to do so.

Div 4 played Aussie Golf at Phillip Island. After struggling with the car race traffic to just make it to the tee, they fought out a solid 4-3 win. Bryan McCorkell was the star of the show with a 5-4 win, while Denis Wallace kept his unbeaten record intact, winning 3-1. Mark Anderson (2/1) and captain Colin Bear (1 up) ground out solid wins to seal the deal. Well done guys! Like Div 3, div 4, with 3 wins from 4 starts is in good shape to play finals, but again must win at least another 2 games to make sure.

Keep trucking boys!!!
