Past Captains v New Committee Day

8 of the Club’s past Captains challenged the New Golf Committee in today’s 4BBB Stableford event.   The new Committee snuck in for a victory by 6 matches to 4 with a few matches drawn.

The best score of the day was 41 points by the pairing of Allan Kuhne and George Hendry.  Ken Smirk and Ian Barlow beat 3 othe pairs on a countback to win the runner-up prize with 40 points

Continuing his amazing run of success with the Nearest the Pin prize, Ian Barlow took the honours on 14.  Ashleigh Hutton was best on 16.

Stableford Thursday 22nd August

A good field of 48 players battled fine but blustery conditions in today’s competition. Norm Hughes played very solid golf to run out overall winner on countback with 34 points. The B-grade contingent obviously found the going pretty tough, as evidenced by Peter Hartigan’s winning score of 30 points; also on countback. Kevin Michael rounded out the grade winners; shooting a fine 34 points to take out C-grade.

Stableford – August 20

A small field of fearless golfers didn’t let the cold and windy conditions deter them today.

In a rare event, Colin Bear took the honours with 34 points pipping Norm Hughes on a countback.

David Richards hit the flagstick on 14 and rolled to 3.38 metres from the hole to collect nearest the pin.  NTP specialist Ian Barlow bobbed up again on 16 with a shot to 3.90m.

HS Roberts Foursomes – August 17

With the smell of spring in the air, a healthy field tested their skills in the toughest game of all, straight Foursomes.  The well credentialed pairing of Dan Jolley and Stuart Harry won the day’s event with a nett score of 72.5, narrowly pipping Rod Mackenzie & Matt Bowey and Winton Knop & Malcolm Legge, both pairs with a nett 73.  Norm Hughes & Craig Hutchinson rounded out the top 4.  The top 4 pairs now move into the matchplay phase of the HS Roberts Foursomes board event.

Craig won 2 golf balls for both him and his partner with his nearest the pin shot to 4.30 metres on the 14th.

Peter Walsh did the business on 16 to earn 2 golf balls for himself and partner, Andrew Smith.

A separate stableford competition was run for those left without a partner and a group of visitors, largely  from Wonthaggi GC.  Scott Williams took to Leongatha’s fairways and greens like a seasoned local to shoot 38 points to annihilate the rest of the field.

Thursday Stableford 15th August

A good field of 53 players contested today’s stableford competition in very blustery conditions. Fresh back from touring northern Australia for the past couple of months, John Mclennan was immediately into the groove; shooting an excellent 37 points to win the day on countback from Tony Roberts, who also scored 37 points to take out C-grade honours. Ken Smirk co0mpleted the winners’ list, winning A-grade with 36 points; also on countback.

4BBB Stableford Open Day

A good field including a number of visitors competed in some welcome winter sunshine for today’s honours in a 4BBB Stableford event. The form golfer of the moment, Wayne Keen partnered beautifully with Greg Ellt (fresh back from Vietnam) to win with 41 points on a countback from Bob Pritchard and Hugh Goodman; also on 41 points.
